Dental Implants in South Houston

While dentures can serve as a way to replace missing teeth, dental implants are a more permanent solution. Essentially, dental implants are titanium screws that replace a permanent tooth’s roots and are surgically inserted into the jawbone. After the jawbone and gums have completely healed, the implantsare then capped off with an artificial tooth (dental crown) to complete the restoration.

Dental Implant Procedure

Once Dr. Espili has determined that you are a good candidate to receive dental implants, she will invite you to come back for the first stage of the treatment. During this appointment, the dental implant will be surgically placed into the jawbone. Before moving on to the next stage of the restoration, some time will need to pass—at least several months—to allow your jawbone to grow around the implant and hold it in place as your gums heal. Dr. Espili will provide you with a temporary crown so you still have the ability to eat during this process.

Once your jawbone and gums have healed, Dr. Espili will attach a customized crown to the implant, made to match your natural tooth color and shape.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer many benefits and advantages over other restorative dental treatments, such as:

  • Permanent solution for missing teeth
  • Provides the same look, strength, and function as natural teeth
  • Prevents the jawbone from weakening
  • Maintains natural facial structure

Candidates for Dental Implants

Some patients may not be eligible to receive dental implants. In order to be a good candidate, you must have a healthy jawbone and gums, as well as a strong immune system to aid in the healing process. Dr. Espili can perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and jawbone as well as assess your medical history to determine if you are a suitable candidate. Even if you are not a candidate, Dr. Espili may suggest other restorative alternatives for your smile.
